Keeping in mind the wide variety of non-Spanish speaking people residing and visiting Costa Rica both Spanish and English dailies are available at the newsstands everyday. The very many Costa Rican publications available at the stalls include,

1. The Tico Times – The name of the paper may emphasize on the Tico (the colloquial term for Costa Ricans) bit, but don't be persuaded into believing that this paper is confined within the Costa Rican borders. This weekly English paper is the leading English language publication in the whole of Central America. It offers a detailed analysis of both local and international events be it political, financial, tourism related or otherwise this is where you will get all the inside news from. It also has a popular classified page which advertises everything from scooters on sale, to apartotels on offer or homes for sale. If you are looking for a place to stay in Costa Rica or eagerly searching for a teacher for your little one this is where you must look.

2. La Nacion – Costa Rica's leading Spanish newspaper. It not only has the highest print run in the country but is also the most widely distributed. Each issue of the paper contains sections covering world issues, local issues, sports, business etc.

3. La Republica – Closely follows La Nacion in terms of popularity La Republica is far more local in identity than La Nacion. Despite is restricted character however it still has a few sections devoted entirely to international happenings.

4. La Prensa Libre – contains news primarily pertaining to Costa Rica alone. Is a far smaller paper than both La Nacion and La Republica. Like both of them it is also a Spanish paper. mcon4
